Description
“Gateway to the Falls” is a painting of the historical Arch Bridge in Oregon City which connects Oregon City to West Linn. It was built in 1922 and is characterized by Gunite-encased steel through the arch.
This oil painting is done in realism style so that it will spark the memories of Oregon City as it was being built in the early 1900’s. The people in the painting are depictions of how many people gathered when it was first built. It is said that about 10,000 people gathered for the dedication ceremony on December 28, 1922. There were a parade and a wedding in the center of the bridge symbolizing the union of the two communities.
