Description
This piece is one of my favorites because I stepped out of the box from using wood panels to using copper sheets as my medium. The frame was a little tricky to build since the copper piece is not exactly 3’ x 4’ dimension. Also, the copper comes with very sharp edges, so gloves are a must. (Gloves are also important during the whole painting and prep due to the nature of copper oxidizing when touched.) After building the frame and painting it white, I cut the copper to the correct dimension then mounted the copper on it using Loctite adhesive glue. Then I sanded the copper using fine sandpaper so that the edges would be smooth and the surface would have a slight texture to hold the paint. T
Now for the fun part, I took a picture of some of my favorite wines and a pig holding a wine bottle. The picture has a lot of detail from my tile wall which took away from the composition, so I decided to use abstract shapes for the background. This way, your eye follows the wine bottles to the pig. The final painting is a bit surreal but has impasto style (the brush strokes and palette knife marks are highly visible).
